Linking ideas

The real power of Substrate comes from linking. When you connect one note to another with wiki-links, you build a graph of your thinking that you can explore and navigate.

Bidirectional links

Every link goes both ways. When note A links to note B, note B shows a backlink to note A automatically. You never need to manually maintain cross-references — Substrate handles it.

The graph view

Click the graph icon to see a visual map of your notes and their connections. Zoom in on clusters, find isolated notes waiting to be linked, and discover patterns in your thinking.

Connections panel

Open any note and scroll to the bottom. The Connections panel shows you which notes link here and what similar notes you might want to explore next.
